Filler Part Nesting API Schema

The filler part nesting process using the NC API consists of two steps:

1) (Regular) Nesting: The process of creating an arrangement of parts on a given sheet.#

As shown on the left (1), your nesting job is sent as parts and sheet to the API. As an output (seen on the right), the API places all parts on the sheet and returns the new positions and rotations for all parts. Also, a so called CuttingPlanGeometry (CPG) is created which can be used as input for (2).

2) Filler Part Nesting: The process of creating a nesting with improved space efficiency (by placing filler parts) for a given arrangement.#

The input on the left (2) can be a CPG as result from (1) or an existing dxf/svg from your system, which ins imported as CPG. Through additionally specifying material and tools used to manufacture this nesting the API will select matching FillerParts (FP) and places them into the unused area of the nesting. As a result, shown on the right (2), a new nesting (optimized CPG) was generated with increased material efficiency. This can be consumed by your system and further processed in your manufacturing pipeline.

1) and 2) can be used separately. You can use the API for only creating a nesting (A) or to just increase material efficiency of a given nesting (B). Alternatively both workflows can be exectued consecutively: the resulting nesting of 1) can be used directly (C) as input for a filler part nesting process (check creating a Cutting Plan Geometry for details).
